1. Program introduction:

The Culture Exchange program hereafter referred to as CE program is namely Chinese culture and language learning paired with English teacher training/ESL training. The CE program is only for students whose native language is English. (I.e. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, South Africa, the United Kingdom)


2. The Duration:

The training period is one year.


3. The Training Content:

a. Chinese Language Courses

The Intensive Chinese language course enables students to have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through learning Chinese. At the end of the course, students can choose to take the HSK proficiency test, up to level four. Students who have obtained HSK level 4 are eligible to apply for a bachelor's degree from Shanghai University of applied technology or a master's degree from Shanghai University of applied technology.

b. The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

English Teaching training includes Teaching theory and method training and course practice. After completing the corresponding class hour, those who meet the relevant requirements can apply for TEFL examination.At present, the TEFL certificate is universally recognized and accepted around the world. Students with a TEFL certificate have the opportunity to be recommended as an English teacher in a primary or secondary school as well as in an after-hour tutoring school for ages 6 to 16.

 

4. Training Courses and Fees:

1) Chinese proficiency test training (HSK1- HSK4)

Tuition: RMB18,000 for 896 Units

2) Foreign language teacher (English) vocational training program (TEFL)

Tuition: RMB12,000 for 800 Units


5. Eligibility:

a. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good moral character; Furthermore applicants must abide by China’s Laws and respect Chinese customs as well as the university’s code of conduct.

b. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30.

c. All applicants must pass an enrollment interview before being admitted.


6. Attendance and Performance Requirements:

a. If the student is absent for 30% of their enrolled classes they will be expelled.

b. Students who have been absent from class without asking for leave or permission prior to the absence for a continuous two weeks will be expelled.

c. Students must pass the middle and final exams.


7. Registration:

On arrival, newly enrolled students should register at the International Education Center, located in Room 401D, University Library, Xuhui Campus, within the period designated in the Admission Notice. For registration, the student should submit the Admission Notice, the visa application form W202, and pay tuition fees.

Those who fail to register on time must ask for an extension in advance, and it can be deferred for two weeks at the most. If not, they will be regarded as giving up their student status.

 

8. Required Procedures:

a. Fill in Application Form for Admission.

b. Pay the tuition fee. 

c. Sign the Security Commitment for International Students of Shanghai Institute of Technology.

d. Students who need on-campus housing must check in, sign the Agreements on Accommodation and pay all room charges.

e. Make reservations and go to Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center for Physical Examination.

f. Apply for the Study Residence Permit.

g. Purchase insurance.
